Here is one of the honest review by S. Keeth “Geek extraordinaire” (Dallas, TX USA), that already purchase and use this Garmin 1350LMT GPS device.

I just received my new Garmin 1350LMT, and I am delighted with it so far. It comes with free lifetime maps and traffic, although I’m not sure I will use the traffic feature. Although I have not yet used it for navigation purposes (I will update this review with that info), I can say that it is a huge improvement over my previous GPS device (which was only 4 months old), which I shall not name (but its initials are TT), and here are the reasons. First, the TT does not allow you to choose an eco-friendly route (as gas prices are again in the neighborhood of $3 per gallon), and this Garmin does. The TT mounting system is far inferior to the mounting system provided with the Garmin – the TT was too easily detached from the ring to which it attaches, which happened much too often when adjusting its position – no such problem with the Garmin. The touchscreen of the Garmin is much more sensitive, whereas the TT required a more forceful touch, which sometimes resulted in it becoming detached from the mounting ring. Also, the TT software is not smart enough to delete the older map when updating to a newer map – thus, if you forget to delete the older map first, after enduring the long wait while downloading the newer map, you ultimately get an error message because there is insufficient storage space for the new map, and you have to go through the entire downloading process again (after remembering to first delete the older map). The Garmin software simply deletes the older map as part of the process of updating to a newer map – what a concept! The menu system on the Garmin is simpler and more intuitive than on the TT. As other reviewers have noted, I highly recommend purchasing the Garmin Portable Friction Mount.

12/30/2010 Update: I have now used the Garmin to navigate locally. It works well, and when I deviate from its proposed route (because I know my local area well), it recalculates much more quickly than the TT, which continually wanted me to turn around or otherwise adhere to its proposed route. The Garmin Portable Friction Mount is much better than the corresponding TT beanbag mount. The Garmin Friction Mount has a larger bottom surface area and is therefore much more stable. It appears that it will be more than sufficient to secure the Garmin GPS device on the dashboard without the use of any adhesives. Having been critical of the TT, I should note that it does have one desirable feature that the Garmin apparently lacks, which is that you can set the volume to automatically adjust based on speed of your vehicle. This TT feature works well, and adjusts the volume upward at higher speeds to compensate for more road noise at higher speeds. However, I still find the Garmin to be a much better product than the comparable TT.
